Toxiraptor (Japanese: ベノムプター Benomuputā) is a dual-type Rock/Poison Pokémon.

It evolves from Poizookie starting at level 37, after it is revived from a Raptor Claw.

Biology

Toxiraptor is an ancient Pokémon similar, yet unidentical to real life raptors. Most of its skin is purple, with a tan underside and lighter purple stripes, one of which forming a sort of "mask" for Toxiraptor, akin to a raccoon. Its feathers on its head, back, and arms are the same color as whatever piece of skin its on, possessing lighter tips if they are on the purple side. It has a sharp blade at the end of its tail, which it uses alongside its feathers to perform a Toxiravage.

Toxiraptor lived only in desolate wastelands, as its highly toxic nature would cause entire ecosystems to fall apart. It is aggressive, remorseless, and feral to the point where its body produces bile to ward off every organism in its radius. However, if it were to hunt, its terrifying speed and poison would make for an inevitable death to its prey.

Pokédex Entry

Pokédex entry
Toxiraptor does not make poison. Its personality is so toxic that bile flows into its blood, making it poisonous.

Trivia

  • Toxiraptor, along with Huntabre, has the highest base Speed stat of all Rock-type Pokémon.
  • Toxiraptor was an infamous PokeAus suggestion before it had a debut in Clover. The sheer persistence of Toxiraptor is what gave it its meme status, and thus was included.
  • Toxiraptor earned the move Spore after an anonymous poster claimed it was named after a Darkspore creature. Currently, it cannot legally learn it, but many Toxiraptor users have the move.
  • Before the official release of Clover, the shiny form appeared the same as its normal form but with blue scales on top of the body rather than a light purple body and light gray shades for the scales.

Design Origin

It seems to be visually inspired by maniraptoran theropod dinosaurs, particularly members of dromaeosauridae ("raptors"), sporting what appear to be feathers on its wrists, head and lower back. Despite its namesake, it lacks the signature curved sickle-claw.

Its tail is inspired by that of Vertigo's, who is a playable character in the arcade fighter Primal Rage. They both possess a striped tail with a spike protruding from it. They are both venomous creatures, with Vertigo being able to spit poison, bite venom into prey, and having the physical traits of a cobra, as Toxiraptor is literally just a toxic raptor.

Name Origin

Toxiraptor is a play on "Toxic" and "Raptor". It's also said that it was named after a creature from the games Spore and Darkspore
